Guide to Unlock the Power of your Root Chakra
Your chakras, or energy centers, govern the flow of energy within your body. There are seven main chakras in the body, which begin at the base of the spine and move upward to the tops of your head.
These energy centers, which cannot be seen with the naked eye, also correspond to the body's major organs. When you feel out of sorts in any of the areas of the seven main chakras, you will likely be able to correlate it back to an energy imbalance.
The root chakra, or Muladhara, is located at the base of your spine. Much like the foundation of a building provides stability, your root chakra is the infrastructure for life. The root chakra helps keep you grounded and secure, but when it is out of balance, you can be left feeling unstable in finances or basic safety and security. The mantra for the root chakra is "I am." If you find that you are excessively criticizing yourself or are dealing with more fear in life than usual, your root chakra may need attention. Much like the foundation of our home needs to be stable, so does our root chakra.
The physicality of your root chakra out of balance looks like lower back discomfort such as sciatica, knee issues, colon or bladder dysfunction, or imbalances in your male/female reproductive system, particularly the adrenal glands.
Crystals to Support the Root Chakra
The color associated with the root chakra is a deep, dark red. If you would like to utilize crystals to provide support, reach for bloodstone, tiger's eye, onyx, or red jasper.
Affirmations of Support
Affirmations are positive statements that can be said quietly or out loud to challenge or work to overcome self-limiting beliefs or struggle. Here are a few examples of affirmations for the root chakra:
-I am safe, protected, and grounded in my body.
-With every breath, I release fear and embrace trust.
-I choose to trust the universe and have faith in my highest good.

Self-Care Tips
If you have a propensity for fear or self-criticism, there are a few focus areas that may be beneficial for you. I invite you to take on whatever resonates with you and leave behind what doesn't.
-When you have a choice or decision to make about something, take a moment to try and come from a place of trusting and knowing rather than a place of uncertainty or fear. It may help quiet your mind and put one hand over your heart, the other over your abdomen to get in touch with yourself before making any decision, big or small.
-It can become habitual to think from a place of lack rather than abundance. I invite you to try to think about what you are grateful for throughout the day, rather than wishing you had something different or something more.
-Getting your bare feet to the earth is often a great way to become rooted firmly back into your body when you feel uneasy. Make a point to go barefoot in the grass, sand, or rock whenever possible to stay grounded and centered.
All of these tools and practices will assist in keeping your root chakra in balance. When you cultivate a strong foundation and are firmly rooted and grounded, you will be better able to handle whatever comes your way.
